EJ All-Star Review for Holes (For
smaller people it is the Star, and for the larger person, the Super
Star)
September 18, 2004
If anybody is going to write a biased review
of the All-Star, you would expect it to be me. Luckily for
me I can give you my straight up review and it is going to
give you an accurate expectation of what the boat does, so
you won't be mislead, and it is a really, really good one!
Here is the skinny:
Loops:
The word on the street is, "The All-Star goes Huge"
and that is a fact. Looping the All-Star is effortless as
it goes up high and flips easily. Whether you are trying to
get your first loop or trying to get the highest loop in history,
this is the right boat!
Cartwheels: Smooth and easy as it has ever been in
the history of kayaking. The SUPER slicey shape throughout
from the wrap down deck makes it cartwheel like no other.
Clean cartwheels and Super Clean Cartwheels only require the
balance, no energy needed to bring them through.
Balance and User Friendliness:
The edges are the trademark David Knight/EJ drop down chines
with just the right height and rocker profile to keep you
right side up when spinning and setting up, as well as when
you find yourself in the pit sidesurfing. The bow to stern
volume can be very balance or skewed easily if you like to
move your seat around, and use the Happy Feet and Backband
adjustments to move fore and aft. When I am doing a large
variety of tricks I have my seat in the foward position (I
have short legs), and when doing mostly aerial moves, I keep
it neutral for more bow volume.
Here are some photos from the Black, Rock Island, and the
Ottawa!
