World Cup 2- Men's Kayak Prelims are Full on

August 22, 2008

Photos

Today was a long day with 17 heats of Men’s K1s, as well as C1 Prelims, and K1 Junior Prelims. The early heats saw Dustin Urban pull and early lead with 1,300+ points from the USA. In the next heat, Stephen Wright killed it with two solid rides that outscored most of the class’s combined scores to get a 1,600+ point score. EJ was next in heat 4 and got two scores in the 700’s to get a 1,506 point score, putting the USA in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd until heat 12. In heat 12 Peter Czonka nailed his first ride with zero mistakes to get a 900+ point ride. His second ride was much lower but high enough to edge out EJ for the second place position in prelims with a 1534. The rides are quite varied in what moves people are doing.

EJ’s ride is an entry move, huge air loop, lunar orbit/back loop combo, two split wheels, two tricky woos, and then a McNasty and a Phonic Monkey at the end. Stephen Wright is focused only on Huge loop moves and McNasty and Phonics Monkeys. Peter doesn’t get big air but gets aerial enough to score the air loop, and then does a flurry of Phonics, McNasty, and Tricky Woos. Dustin did a varied ride as well.

Nick Troutman should make the cut, but not in the top 5. The results are not posted yet and the final athletes still have their rides left. Clay Wright is in the last heat and can rip it up with a big score.

In the Junior men’s class Jonathan Shales and Jason Craig did awesome, but finished behind the Spanish kid who nailed his rides to take first. Look for full results later today.

In the C1 class some great rides were thrown and a lot of flushing was happening too with early morning nerves.

C1 scores below…
