| Both
the Fun 1 and the All-Star have seen 25+ hours of on the water
testing each. The objective was to collect specific information
about each characteristic of the boats including, ergonomics,
river running ability, feel for rolling, speed, wave surfing,
hole surfing, squirting, vertical moves, air, user friendliness,
and more. Each characteristic was carefully considered before
making these prototypes, but nothing beats proper on the water
objective testing for closing the gap between theory and reality.
The Fun 1 was close on most accounts to
the objective, with the exception of some minor tweaks in
the rocker profile, volume placement, and ergonomics. The
final design has just been completed on the computer by David
Knight and the next step is to make the mold. The interior
design that Jackson Kayak will use to eliminate the holes
in the boat was the final step that had to be worked out.
David spent hundreds of hours making this come together. So
those bags under his eyes were for your kids benefit!
Paddling the All-Star has been a liberating
experience for me. I can do things in the boat that I could
never do at Rock Island before. The smaller waves have become
incredible testing grounds (playgrounds). I can Helix where
I could never before, loop higher and easier than ever before,
and simply surf around like crazy. I am very happy with the
first prototype. There are many changes I will make in the
final model. Pretty much at least one adjustment in each category.
However, this is the best first prototype we have made since
the XXX years ago.
The Fun- My next project is to make a plastic
prototype of the Fun. This will happen in December. I can’t
wait to get in that boat. It will comfortably and confidently
get me down most of the rivers I run, and play like a rodeo
boat, what more could I ask for.
Thanks for keeping up with the progress! |
