Fun 1 will weigh under 20 pounds, and this one
does!
March 7, 2004
Check out my “designs” section to
see the planned weight of the Fun 1 at 20 pounds. I wrote those
specs in October of last year before I had a design. I spent the
past 6 months doing everything in my power to get the weight as
light, strong, and functional as possible. The result is making
my very happy!
An orange Fun 1 was popped from the mold on Friday.
I outfitted it with the composite track and new adjustable footbag
system and added a seat and hip pads from Dane’s old kayak,
along with the IR rear adjust backband that we will be using.
Just for “Fun” I weighed it to see
where we were on our “lightest whitewater kayaks in history”
goal and…..
It weighs 18 pounds!!!!
Plus you can jump up and down on the hull with
little deflection (and we don’t have the additional vertical
support beams yet!)
I will make photos for you to see as soon as
I can. We didn’t mold the graphics into it yet because they
won’t be ready until this coming Friday, but I added the equivalent
stickers, like in the composite boats.
Did anybody here me say 18 pounds? My goal was
20-22 pounds, but every step was taken, including replacing an Aluminum
beam with composite to lighten the thing up. (In reality it is 17
pounds but missing two components that are about 1 pound total)
I am starting to get so excited that I am shaking! My Fun may not
come in at 28 pounds at this rate, but I will keep that as my prediction
and if I can beat it, kudos!
